Kennedy Mupeli

Gaborone Botswana - Board Member
Kennedy Mupeli, from Botswana, is a long-time HIV advocate, educator, and project management professional. In 2017, as an AVAC Advocacy Fellow, he led a pioneering PrEP initiative that integrated the Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U) message, linking prevention, treatment, and dignity for people living with HIV.

Recognized as the U=U pioneer in Botswana, Kennedy co-founded the U=U Africa Forum, a movement led by people living with HIV to end stigma and expand access to treatment across Africa. In 2019, he became an International AIDS Society (IAS) Cure Advocacy Fellow, deepening his role in advancing HIV justice.

He currently serves as the Community Engagement Lead for the NIHR Global Health Research Group on HIV-Associated Fungal Infections Project, translating research on fungal infections into community action. As a principal HIV science literacy trainer and 2023 IAS/AVAC HIV Cure Alumni Grantee, Kennedy continues to champion cure education and advocacy for long-term survivors, firmly grounded in his belief that U=U is both a scientific truth and a social justice movement.
