A global first: PEPFAR supports Vietnamese K=K (U=U) Initiative

From John Blandford, CDC Hanoi: “PEPFAR Vietnam, joined by its national Vietnam government, civil society and multilateral partners just completed an intensive but highly successful PEPFAR 2018 planning meeting in Johannesburg.”

“PEPFAR’s U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator Ambassador Deborah Birx called out the Vietnam national HIV response as the first of PEPFAR-supported programs to embrace U=U (“undetectable=untransmittable”) as a core strategy to address HIV stigma and to motivate HIV testing, treatment and adherence.”

Thanks to the leadership of the Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC), the Vietnam Network of People Living with HIV (VNP+), HAIVN, and CDC-Vietnam colleagues for driving the roll-out of U=U, which in Vietnam is K=K (“không phát hiện=không lấy truyền”). Your efforts have made Vietnam a global leader in establishing U=U / K=K as an essential part of the national HIV response in reaching 90-90-90 targets!
