Global: Bruce Richman – Stepping Back from PAC, Moving U=U Forward
After a remarkable decade of founding and leading PAC, Bruce Richman is stepping away from his role at PAC at the end of this year to make space for new leadership and voices at PAC and in the U=U movement. Bruce made this decision in close consultation with our board and in discussions across the U=U community.
In a deeply personal letter to the U=U community, Bruce reflects on what we’ve built together, the liberation and hope that U=U has brought to millions of people living with HIV, and why this transition is rooted in love, trust, and a shared dedication to the movement’s future.

As part of the transition plan, Monique Carry, PhD, MA, PAC’s Director of Strategic Initiatives, will serve as Acting Executive Director as of January 1, 2026, and Ian Green OBE will continue as Interim Chair of the board. With their exceptional leadership, our dedicated board and team, and more than 1,000 organizational partners in over 100 countries, PAC is well-positioned for its next chapter. We remain steadfast in our work to ensure that the promise of U=U becomes a reality for all people living with HIV.
We are profoundly grateful to Bruce for his visionary leadership in bringing U=U from a bold idea to a worldwide movement. In the letter, Bruce assures us that he’s “closing a chapter, not closing my heart” and will remain committed to PAC, the U=U movement, and people living with HIV.
